ForeFlight does not run on Android. It is built for iPad and iPhone, and there is no Android version to download. If you fly with an Android phone or tablet, the question is not how to get ForeFlight on it, but which electronic flight bag was actually built for Android.

DroidEFB is that app: an FAA-approved Class 1 Electronic Flight Bag designed from the start for Android, developed by pilots, and refined through user feedback since 2015. It covers what pilots reach for in the cockpit, with a 30-day free trial and no credit card to start.

Why there is no ForeFlight for Android

ForeFlight has always been an Apple-only product. Searches for “ForeFlight for Android” lead here because DroidEFB is the Android EFB that pilots compare it to, not because a port exists. Rather than keep an iPad charged just for the cockpit, Android pilots run a native app on the device they already own.

What DroidEFB does

  • Moving map with aviation GPS – your position and route overlaid on FAA Sectional, TAC, IFR Low and IFR High charts.
  • Approach plates and taxi diagrams – the full FAA terminal procedures library; Premium subscribers get geo-referenced plates and taxi diagrams that show the aircraft’s position on the diagram.
  • Weather – NOAA aviation weather and NEXRAD radar, with METARs and TAFs translated into plain language, plus SIGMETs and AIRMETs.
  • ADS-B traffic and weather – works with Stratux and other GDL90-compatible receivers for in-flight traffic and FIS-B weather.
  • Flight planning and filing – airports, waypoints, victor and jet airways, STARs, DPs, GPS coordinates and DME; a navigation log that uses current winds aloft; legal briefings and flight plan filing.
  • Weight and balance – aircraft profiles with a built-in W&B calculator.
  • Draw on charts and plates – mark up any chart or approach plate on screen.
  • Fuel prices and FBO information – plan stops with current fuel prices.
  • Track log – every flight recorded as GPS breadcrumbs you can replay in Google Earth.
  • Offline use – download charts, plates and airport data for flight without a connection.
  • Settings backup and restore – move your setup to a new device in a minute.

DroidEFB is an FAA-approved Class 1 EFB under AC 91-78 and AIM Chapter 1, which means it is legal to use in place of paper charts in the aircraft.

Switching from an iPad EFB

Most of the workflow carries over directly: pick a route, brief it, file it, fly it on the moving map, and shoot the approach from the plate. The tutorials walk through each tab, and the documentation covers device setup, ADS-B receivers and flight-simulator connections. Your trial starts the day you install, so a couple of flights is enough to decide.
